The Grove Street Cemetery - History Beneath Your Feet

As the oldest chartered burial ground in the United States, the Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven, CT serves as the final resting place of some of history's most eminent figures. These distinctions have earned the cemetery a place on the National Historic Landmarks, one of nine landmarks within the the city of New Haven. Today this urban landmark welcomes visitors with beautifully landscaped pathways that wind through a geometric pattern that mimics the nine historic squares in the downtown area. Pay your respects at the graves of Eli Whitney, inventor of the cotton gin, or Noah Webster.
